What Is Seed Cycling (and Will It Help My PMS)?

Alisa Vitti is a holistic health coach and a best-selling author of WomanCode. She helps her menstrual cycle with a hormone-balance technique called “seed cycling.” This is simply eating different types of seeds during the different phases of your menstrual cycle. During the beginning of your cycle, your body needs more estrogen. Flax seeds and pumpkin seeds would be ideal to consume. The second half of your period, your body needs more progesterone. Eating a tablespoon of raw ground sesame or sunflower seeds would be best.

Key Takeaways:

  • As there are many different diets for a woman, this one is much more unique than others.
  • Contrary to belief, there are many seeds out there that have excellent health benefits.
  • Woman need to eat the things that work for them and they are the only ones who can decide that.

“Seed cycling is the holistic process of eating a rotation of different types of seeds (think pumpkin, flax, sesame and sunflower) during the different phases of your menstrual cycle.”

Renew Medispa New Hampshire 'Captivating Eyes' Peri-Orbital Rejuvenation Using Stem Cells & Collagen

‘Captivating Eyes’ Peri-Orbital Rejuvenation Using Stem Cells & Collagen

At Renew MediSpa in New Hampshire, we are using stem cell science and collagen stimulating threads, smoother skin is achieved. Take cosmetic rejuvenation of the eye region to a higher level –

Renew New Hampshire - Eye Region Stimulate new collagen for up to 3 months

Go Beyond Botox!

No doubt you have heard the old saying that ‘The eyes are the windows to the soul’. Research has shown repeatedly that people look to the eyes, and the region just below the eyes, when assessing the identity, age and emotional state of others.

While aging is a reality of life, it doesn’t mean you can’t maintain a natural, more youthful and refreshed look along the way.

Although neurotoxins (Botox/Dysport/Xeomin) are able to relax small muscles in the region around the eye, their effect is limited. Many women have fine lines in this region in addition to some darkness and even volume loss. All of this contributes to a tired, worn look that does not reflect how you feel.

Renew MediSpa offers the very latest options to restore a youthful look to the eye region.

With a combination of Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix, derived from your own blood at the time of your treatment, and Eurothreads smoothing eye threads, Dr. Vuich can address lost volume (‘tear troughs’), dark circles, and fine lines in the lower eyelid and under eye region, as well as those around the brow and in the corner of the eye (the ‘crow’s feet’).

This procedure takes only an hour and stimulates new collagen for 3 months!

With all the gratitude in the world,

Keeping Ahead of the Pack

Some of you reading this post have been with us “from the beginning”, some have only recently become aware of Renew MediSpa one way or another. Renew began way back in 2005, as a sideline to what was then a private Internal Medicine practice. In 2007 it became a “stand alone” business with its own space, and in the 10+ years since then it has grown to become the uncontested leader in the region for non-surgical aesthetics and sexual wellness procedures.

News Flash- that doesn’t “Just happen”.

There is no such thing in this field as “If you build it, they will come”.

Many times clients will ask me how it is that Renew MediSpa is always at the cutting edge…they are looking around for the sleeping bag I must be keeping onsite…and to some extent that is not untrue. The fact is that staying completely on top of the technology in this field is, in itself, a part time job. There is not a month that goes by that I am not researching developments in our field, conducting demonstrations on available equipment, reading articles, teaching other providers how to inject, upgrading equipment, paying for said upgrades, and/or traveling near and far to spend time with leaders in the aesthetics arena. There are many days when I wish I had a “Mini-Me” to help get through the tasks.

No doubt, it is a labor of love. I cannot imagine myself doing anything different. I deeply appreciate the impact we have on the lives of our clients. Our world at Renew is not, in general, Kylie Jenner wannabes looking for the biggest lips possible (nothing against Kylie, or big lips if that’s what you want, it’s just not our driving force). Our world is men and women looking to lead the best possible lives, looking and feeling energized, looking and functioning at the top of their game. We do also pride ourselves in education, and in staying on top of an ever growing field, and I know in my heart that our clients appreciate that dedication.

This month, the Hippo Magazine conducts its “Best of New Hampshire” survey.

Residents can vote, up until February 28th, for their favorites in over 100 categories. By visiting and clicking the link to the survey, you can cast your vote for your favorite service providers, activities, destinations, even comment on whether you love lots of snow or not and how you like to take your coffee.

So what’s the big deal about that, you may ask?

The big deal is that, in small business, expression of opinion COUNTS.

This is particularly true in aesthetics and in sexual wellness, fields where not everyone who is having things done is comfortable about talking about it, for better or for worse, due to societal pressures and/or privacy concerns.

I work tirelessly to promote and advance the procedures and growth of Renew MediSpa. It is, quite frankly, my life’s work. It is the most rewarding role I have held in my brief life. I am fortunate to have a family and a staff who dream the big dream with me, who share my commitment to our friends and clients, and to them I am eternally grateful.

And so I will ask just one thing of those of you who have visited Renew MediSpa- Please participate in the Hippo Press Survey.

It requires no personal information, beyond your age range and sex. There is no need to enter a phone number or email address. Simply cast your honest votes for what you love about your New Hampshire environment, and your New Hampshire business vendors. This will assist those who may be newer to the region, or searching for something new, to make the best selection possible. It will help us grow. It will help us further expand our services to better serve you. It will recognize the time, effort, blood, sweat and tears so to speak that it takes to create the best of the best in the region.

Your opinion truly does count, and we appreciate your time.

To cast your votes, visit and click on the voting link near the top of the page. You will need to enter responses for 15 questions for your votes to count. Only one vote can be cast per device (computer, phone, tablet, etc…)

Kick back, have fun with it and know that your gesture is supporting the livelihood of local businesses in this, the Live Free or Die State of New Hampshire!

Skin Treatments to Get in Winter: Lasers & Peels

There are just some things that are better in the winter. Getting cozy by the fire, drinking eggnog, and warm, knitted sweaters are just made all the more special during the coldest times of the year. Surprisingly, there are also a couple of cosmetic treatments that are easier done in the colder months: Laser treatments and chemical peels.

Because laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels often leave the skin delicate and somewhat sensitive after a treatment, it’s highly recommend that patients stay out of the sun while the skin recovers. We generally recommend avoiding significant sun exposure for a week or two after these treatments. So, because most of us don’t enjoy having to spend more time indoors during the warm weather months, many opt to have their treatments done in the winter when they are spending more time indoors anyway. This winter, take advantage of those cozy days where you stay in and schedule an appointment for one of the many laser treatments or chemical peels at Renew MediSpa.

Laser Genesis with The Excel V Laser

This state-of-the-art laser system, the Cutera Excel V Laser,  has many benefits for the skin.  Laser Genesis is extremely popular because it can deliver a powerful treatment without the need for anesthetics or numbing cream, and with minimal or no downtime. Micro pulses of laser energy activate collagen remodeling, while also targeting unwanted brown spots and facial redness. Acne and acne scars can also respond to a series of these treatments. Interestingly, Laser Genesis treatments can also be performed for nail fungus. Yes, once monthly treatment of affected nails can rid fingernails or toenails of chronic fungal infections! Depending on the severity of the nail fungus, it can take 2 to 5 sessions (one a month) to clear the active infection. The damaged nail then gradually grows out, with healthy new nail growing in behind it. You can even still wear nail polish in between treatments.

Downtime: This will depend on which concerns are addressed. When facial redness and/or unwanted blood vessels are treated, there will be some redness and swelling after the treatment which can last for a few hours to a day or two.  Laser genesis treatments for acne or unwanted pigment do not generally cause any swelling. Laser genesis treatments for toenail or fingernail fungal infection does not involve any downtime either.

Pico Genesis with the Cutera Enlighten Laser

This laser system delivers energy so quickly that it essentially turns heat energy into photomechanical energy. That means it can break apart unwanted pigment and stimulate collagen production without damaging the skin.  And since it doesn’t cause bulk heating, the Pico Genesis a safe  treatment for conditions like melasma as well.  If your main concern is unwanted brown spots or uneven skin tone, the Pico Genesis treatment is ideal. If your concern is redness or unwanted facial vessels, Laser Genesis would be the go to treatment.

The PicoGenesis treats: Melasma, freckles, sun spots, fine lines, age spots, and more.

Downtime: There’s no downtime required and you’ll be able to wear makeup on top of the treatment area right away. You will experience some mild itching and some of your spots may darken, but after a week the pigment should flake off.

Laser Hair Removal with the Vectus Laser

Winter is truly the ideal time for laser hair removal.

The Vectus Laser features the largest spot size and most uniform beam profile available today, allowing us to quickly treat unwanted hair, even in the largest areas such as the back, in less than ten minutes.

Its Sapphire treatment tips with Advanced Contact Cooling help protect the epidermis (surface layers of the skin) and help keep you comfortable throughout treatment. For added peace of mind- The Vectus Laser also features the Skintel™ Melanin Reader™, the only FDA-cleared melanin reader, helping us choose settings customized to your pigment, to more safely offer optimized laser hair removal treatments tailored to each client’s skin type, lifestyle, and ethnicity. Our laser technician is able to customize your settings, taking into account the thickness and color of the hair, and your background skin tone, to maximize your results.

It’s likely to be less expensive than you think, and will save you time and money down the road. Check out our affordable treatment pricing here:

The VI Peel

The VI Peel is one of the most advanced chemical peels in the industry. It works by chemically sloughing off the damaged outer layers of the skin, but unlike traditional chemical peels it’s completely painless. All you have to do is lie back, have the VI Peel administered, and then go home. Over the next few days, your fresh new skin will reveal itself. This is a great service to have done once or twice in a year. By removing that build up of dead skin cells, your skin care products will be able to penetrate better and other skin treatments, such as laser, can penetrate even deeper- resulting in improved outcomes.

The VI Peel is good for: acne, acne scarring, wrinkles and fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and other blemishes.

Downtime: Patients tend to experience the majority of the peeling 3 to 4 days after the treatment. It will vary from patient-to-patient, but in general, most of the peeling is done by the 5th or 6th day.  While the skin is peeling, it might feel like you have sunburned skin—which is all the more reason to have the procedure done during the winter.

You’re not the only one with the bright idea of getting resurfacing treatments in the winter time—the winter season is one of our busiest for laser treatments and chemical peels. If you want to debut your new, glowing skin by the time the sun starts to shine, then don’t wait; contact Renew MediSpa now to schedule an appointment for skin resurfacing.

It’s Neck-vember—Leave the Turkey Neck for the Birds!

Listen—there’s one place, and one place only where you should see a turkey neck: your dinner table. If you’re looking to trade in a turkey neck for a smoother, lifted and younger jawline, then now is the best time to treat yourself to Profound RF. It’s Neck-vember! Leave the turkey neck for the birds and learn more about Profound RF-a remarkably powerful device which can be used for the neck, face, and even the body.

Say Goodbye to Turtlenecks and Scarves

As Nora Ephron once said: “We all look good for our age. Except for our necks.” If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and hopelessly pulled back sagging skin—then you know what it’s like to feel vibrant and youthful and still have an aging neck betray your age. Unfortunately, the neck is covered by thin, delicate skin—the kind that’s incredibly susceptible to aging. As we get older the collagen in our skin starts to deplete, gradually causing our skin to droop and wrinkle.

That’s where Profound RF comes in. This incredible procedure delivers radiofrequency energy deep into the dermis to trigger a powerful rejuvenation response from the body; essentially, the body produces more collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid—all substances essential for keeping the skin nourished, tight and youthful. Over time, you’ll be able to see your neck naturally smooth and tighten into a sleeker, slimmer form.

A separate tip- the “sub-dermal”- also destroys unwanted fat cells and reshapes the septae which cause the appearance of cellulite, allowing for smoother, sleeker contours on the thighs.

Here’s how it works:

An initial consult with Dr. Lisa Vuich, or with Beth Wagner, RN, will determine whether you are a good candidate for Profound RF. You cannot have a radiofrequency-based procedure if you

  • have a pacemaker
  • have an implanted cardiac defibrillator
  • are pregnant
  • have uncontrolled diabetes, or another chronic medical condition that would prevent you from healing well (cancer, chemotherapy for example)
  • have a bleeding disorder or are taking strong blood thinners
  • have an infection in the area to be treated

Most of our Profound RF procedures are performed by Beth Wagner, RN. A topical numbing agent can be applied, and your blood is drawn for the platelet rich plasma preparation. Lidocaine is administered to the treatment zone by injection as well, using very small needles. Once you are numb, the treatment session will begin and will take approximately 1 hour.

Profound RF delivers radiofrequency energy through electrode-fitted micro needles, which are needles that are so fine that they won’t damage any tissue they pierce. Once the micro needles pierce the tissues, the Profound RF handpiece delivers enough energy to stimulate a healing response from the body. The combination of the microneedling and radiofrequency technology essentially “tricks” the body into thinking it needs to rebuild and remodel the dermis. Gradually, the skin responds by appearing more supple, smoother, and tightened.

Does it Hurt?

Naturally a treatment like Profound RF would not be performed without a numbing agent. In order to ensure your comfort, we utilize lidocaine injection to numb the treatment area, AND we offer Pro-Nox Nitrous Oxide which you can self-administer during your lidocaine prep and during the procedure itself.  Sometimes referred to as ‘laughing gas’, Pro Nox allows you to relax and feel somewhat euphoric during your treatment. Don’t worry, it wears off within 15 minutes so you are free to drive yourself home with no after effects!

Non Surgical/ Minimally Invasive/Quick Recovery

One of our favorite things about the Profound RF? It’s completely nonsurgical, it is no more invasive than a dermal filler injection, and carries very little risk. We combine our Profound RF treatments with Platelet Rich Plasma- your own growth factors derived from a simple blood draw at the time of the procedure. This further boosts your collagen response and speeds healing.

The Handpieces

There are two kinds of Profound RF handpiece available for patients: the dermal handpiece and the sub Q hand piece. Each one has a different purpose:

Dermal Handpiece

This handpiece delivers radiofrequency energy into the dermis, the layer of the skin that contains your collagen building cells called fibroblasts. Once the dermal layer absorbs the energy, it starts a regenerative process that rebuilds stores of collagen and elastin, two proteins responsible for keeping the skin tight and firm. It also increases production of hyaluronic acid, a sugar that’s essential for keeping the skin hydrated and nourished.

Sub Q Handpiece

This type of Profound RF handpiece goes all the way into the layer of subcutaneous fat under the skin. The radiofrequency energy then destroys the fat cells and stimulates the remodeling of the septae, the connective tissue responsible for cellulite.

Destroying the Double Chin

Here’s some good news: a double chin isn’t entirely caused by a sweet potato yams-based diet; in fact, aging, genetics, and hormonal changes are likelier culprits. The bad news? That means that an early December diet and workout regimen might not do much to treat a double chin. Thankfully, the Profound RF can help. With the Sub Q handpiece, Profound RF can do double duty by tightening skin and eliminating the fat cells responsible for the double chin. After a few months, the body naturally flushes out the destroyed fat cells and you can look forward to a sleeker, slimmer neck.

You’re vibrant, carefree, and young at heart—isn’t it time that you looked the way you feel? At Renew MediSpa, we’re grateful that we have the opportunity to help others reveal their more vital, youthful selves. So, put down those leftover-turkey sandwiches and pick up the phone: with one phone call to Renew MediSpa, we’ll help you find out if Profound RF is the procedure for you.
