Here’s how it works:

An initial consult with Dr. Lisa Vuich, or with Beth Wagner, RN, will determine whether you are a good candidate for Profound RF. You cannot have a radiofrequency-based procedure if you

• have a pacemaker
• have an implanted cardiac defibrillator
• are pregnant
• have uncontrolled diabetes, or another chronic medical condition that would prevent you from healing well (cancer, chemotherapy for example)
• have a bleeding disorder or are taking strong blood thinners
• have an infection in the area to be treated

Most of our Profound RF procedures are performed by Beth Wagner, RN. A topical numbing agent can be applied, and your blood is drawn for the platelet rich plasma preparation. Lidocaine is administered to the treatment zone by injection as well, using very small needles. Once you are numb, the treatment session will begin and will take approximately 1 hour.

Profound RF delivers radiofrequency energy through electrode-fitted micro needles, which are needles that are so fine that they won’t damage any tissue they pierce. Once the micro needles pierce the tissues, the Profound RF handpiece delivers enough energy to stimulate a healing response from the body. The combination of the microneedling and radiofrequency technology essentially “tricks” the body into thinking it needs to rebuild and remodel the dermis. Gradually, the skin responds by appearing more supple, smoother, and tightened.

Does it Hurt?

Naturally a treatment like Profound RF would not be performed without a numbing agent. In order to ensure your comfort, we utilize lidocaine injection to numb the treatment area, AND we offer Pro-Nox Nitrous Oxide which you can self-administer during your lidocaine prep and during the procedure itself.  Sometimes referred to as ‘laughing gas’, Pro Nox allows you to relax and feel somewhat euphoric during your treatment. Don’t worry, it wears off within 15 minutes so you are free to drive yourself home with no after effects!

The Handpieces

There are two kinds of Profound RF handpiece available for patients: the dermal handpiece and the sub Q hand piece. Each one has a different purpose:

Dermal Handpiece

This handpiece delivers radiofrequency energy into the dermis, the layer of the skin that contains your collagen building cells called fibroblasts. Once the dermal layer absorbs the energy, it starts a regenerative process that rebuilds stores of collagen and elastin, two proteins responsible for keeping the skin tight and firm. It also increases production of hyaluronic acid, a sugar that’s essential for keeping the skin hydrated and nourished.

Sub Q Handpiece
